As a parent of an AMES student, you have a chance to help your student have experiences above and beyond what they would have had an opportunity to do in a traditional high school. Internship is one of those opportunities. This class has 2 parts: the first is the internship seminar class and assignments which your student will complete during our Internship Seminar class. The second is "working" at the internship site of their choosing in an area of interest. Both parts are mandatory and graded.
With very limited exceptions, no student will start their actual internship placement until 2nd term. We have many topics to cover during 1st term in the classroom. See below for topics covered during the year.
You are always welcome to contact me any time that you have concerns. During the first term, we are in class every day, so I am only able to check emails periodically. My email is [email protected]. You may also call my cell phone - 801.493.5584 - but again with my class schedule, please leave a message and I will return your call at the end of the day.
If you have any ideas of contacts for internships, either for your own student or another student at AMES, please contact me. We are always interested in starting new partnerships.
Beginning with 2nd term, we meet as a class only on Fridays.
So if your student is in an A-day class, any A-day Friday will be a class day. Same with B-day students.
However, your student needs to sign in to the attendance book EVERY DAY!
If your student does not sign in to the attendance book, they will be marked absent for the day in SIS.
